Day 1 Ulaanbaatar to KhagiinKhar Nuur
The recommended destination of today's itinerary is KhagiinKhar Nuur, a vast freshwater lake located in the semi-desert area of the Great Lakes Basin in western Mongolia. Thanks to the stretches of mountains, blooming flowers and plants, and the fascinating dune landscape around KhagiinKhar Nuur, it is known as one of the most elegant and photogenic lakes in the desert.
You are advised to contact a reliable local agency to provide you with the off-road vehicle, the driver, the guide and the horse needed in the itinerary.
Today, you may depart from Ulaanbaatar and take the off-road vehicle to Khan Hentii Mountain Range, meeting with the horseman and the camel team. Most of the trip during the following several days is a combination of hiking and horse riding. And you need to camp in tents at night. Today, the guide will lead you to trek across the river and over two mountains, totaling 20km. The scenery along the way is beautiful, with pine forests and wildflowers everywhere.

Day 2 Hiking and horse riding to KhagiinKhar Nuur
Today, you are advised to trek and ride horses for 15km to reach KhagiinKhar Nuur. After arrival, appreciate the amazing lake scenery. KhagiinKhar Nuur is surrounded by dense flowers, trees and fine sand dunes. There are dozens of rare birds, wild ducks, mandarin ducks, grey cranes, woodpeckers, and magpies in the lake area. You can also go boating on the lake and try fishing. The fish in the lake such as slingfish, trout and salmon are in large numbers and features natural flavors, which will be the highlight of today's dinner.
Day 3 Continue to Honger River
In the morning, you may continue strolling around the lake to enjoy the fresh air and beautiful scenery. Then, head to the next recommended destination Honger River. The Honger River is just 15 kilometers away and it is a popular starting point for thrilling rafting. In the evening, you may camp on the bank of the Honger River and go fishing by the river. It will be a wonderful experience.

Day 4 Drifting along the Honger River
After breakfast, you may hire a professional guide and start drifting along the Honger River. The whole journey is 25 kilometers and you will appreciate stunning scenery and pass by no men's land. The horseman should wait for you in the camp at the ending point of this drifting. The Honger River is rich in Sturgeon, tequila, perch and mandarin fish. Game can be cooked in the evening. If you can catch a lot of fish, it will be a good dinner.
Day 5 Return to Ulaanbaatar
After breakfast, take the off-road vehicle back to Ulaanbaatar. The trip is about 110 kilometers. Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, was founded in the middle of the Mongolian plateau in 1639. It is an ancient but modern city with rich grassland style. In the afternoon, you may move around in this city. If you want to buy souvenirs for your family and friends, the fine cashmere products are highly recommended.
