Peak season: April to October

The peak season for Zhangjiajie tourism is from April to October every year, when Zhangjiajie has the best natural scenery. In spring, Zhangjiajie is full of vigor: plants turn green, flowers start to blossom, and birds start to sing. In summer, covered in green plants and with lower temperature than many other places, Zhangjiajie is a perfect summer resort. In autumn, exposed in crisp air, the leaves yellow gradually and the mountains demonstrate a colorful autumn scenery, with withered yellow, light green and jade green, flaming red, and golden yellow.

However, accommodations and other cost are higher compared with the slack season. Also, July and August have more rainfalls; it is advised to keep an eye on the weather report if traveling during the months and try to avoid rainy days.

Slack season: November to Next March

The temperature of Zhangjiajie from November to Next March is low, therefore, fewer people would like to go. However, the low temperature brings different beauty. In cold winter, especially in the early morning, wreathed in winter smog and white snow, Zhangjiajie is like the fairy tale world. With thick frost condensation, the pine needles looks like pure flowers blossoming; and the brushes turned into white corals, which creates a tranquil world.

Compared with peak season, tourists can travel and appreciate the scenery at a leisurely pace without wasting time to queue up, and also can enjoy lower cost for entry ticket, hotel rooms and transportation fee, etc.

Times to Avoid Travel

Try to avoid three peak tourism seasons of a year - Chinese New Year in January or February, summer vacation from middle July to late August, and National Day from October 1st to 7th. During these peak seasons, all food, accommodation, travel prices will increase by 30% to 100% and the flows of tourists can make your travel experience not so pleasant.

What’s more, it is better to avoid three-day statutory holidays, such as Dragon Boat Festival, Labor Day, and Mid-Autumn Festival.

If you still insist, book transportation and hotels early enough and be prepared to spend more on them. Last but not least, well plan your travel route inside the scenic spots to avoid the crowds as possible as you can.
