Best El Salvador Tour

Upon your arrival at El Salvador airport, your driver will meet you and transfer to the hotel in San Salvador. If your flight arrive early in the day, you could explore the city by yourself.

This morning, we will spend a half day exploring the capital city of El San Salvador. We will walk along the main streets to visit some famous historical sites such as the Catedral Metropolitana, the National Palace, the National Theatre, the Iglesia El Rosario as well as the main squares. Then we will drive around 1 hour and a half to Suchitoto, the symbol of El Salvador’s cultural traditions. Upon arrival, you will visit the Iglesia Santa Lucia, which is known as the gem of Suchitoto. Afterwards, you will have some time to stroll around the central plaza where you will find many colorful handicrafts shops, cafes and restaurants. In the late afternoon, we will drive back to your hotel in San Salvador.

Today, we will firstly head to the Joya de Ceren Archaeological Park to discover the mysterious Maya civilization in this pre-Columbian Mayan farming village. Under a five-meter-thick layer of ash, the site was well-preserved for thousands of years. Now, you can see many farming tools, relics, and pictures inside the museum, which illustrated the life of the Mayans in 1400 years ago (7th century). Then we will pay a visit to the Sitio Arqueologico San Andres, an important ceremonial center with various structures and well-preserved indigo mills. At the end of the tour, we will come to the Tazumal archaeological sites, where you can see the largest pyramid of El Salvador as well as the Stone of the Victories. Transfer back to San Salvador city.

Today we will have a full wonderful day to visit the Santa Ana Volcano. After breakfast, we will drive around 1 hour and a half to the National Park Cerro Verde. You will get some history and geological formation about the crater from your knowledgeable guide when hiking up to the top. When reaching the top of the volcano, you will enjoy a spectacular view of the National Park Cerro Verde, the Izanco Volcano and the Lake Coatepeque. If you are interested, you could also row a boat at Lake Coatepeque or swim there. In the late afternoon, we will drive back to San Salvador.

With high swells, the El Tunco beach is regarded as a paradise for surf lovers. After breakfast, we will drive around 40 minutes to the Playa El Tunco. Here, we will leave a free day for you to explore this charming beach on your own. If you a surf lover, you could join in the activities. Otherwise, you can explore the beach caves or have a swim in the sea. In the lunch time, you could enjoy some local food like Pupusa in Restaurante La Bocana. At the end of the day, we will transfer you back to the hotel in San Salvador.
