Day 3 Visit the Cape Coast Castle and the Elmina Castle
Go to Central Region for the infamous Forts and Castles, where the Negro slave trade in the past is out in the open. The first we are going to visit is the Cape Coast Castle, a UNESCO world heritage site constructed by the Swedish in 1653. Since it was completed, this castle was increasingly used for negro slave trade. The next stop of today's Ghana culture trip will be Elmina Castle, aka St. George's Castle, built by Portuguese in 1482. It was originally built as a trading post for golds and other African products, and later evolved into a place where black slaves were in captivity. Looking down from Elmina Castle, the colorful port is right underneath, as well as beautiful western African scenery of canoes going to the sea in evening glows.
