Volunteer Experience at Dujiangyan Panda Base

Your guide will contact you one day in advance to confirm the meeting time, usually at around 07:00. After picking you up from your hotel in downtown Chengdu, we will take a 1.5 hours' car ride to the Dujiangyan Panda Base to start this panda keeper program tour. Upon arrival at 08:30 or so, your guide will help you handle the registration procedures. The staff there will inform you the dos and don'ts and then offer you the special uniform and volunteer card. When all the preparations are done, you will be divided into groups to complete the volunteer work under the guidance of the staff. Your tour guide will also accompany you for the entire time.
  The volunteer program will usually start at around 09:00. The first work is to clean up the pandas' sheds and activity areas, such as sweeping out their excrements and leftovers. Sometimes, you will also assist the staff to smash up the bamboo stems for pandas to eat. It usually takes around 1 hour to clean. After that, you will have an hour to tour around the base.   At 11:00 or so, you will have chance to see how the professional keepers feed the giant pandas through the enclosures. Then a simple Chinese lunch will be offered for you at around 11:40 in the Base’s Canteen.   You might need to do cleaning or feeding according to the arrangement of the Panda Base. After that, you will be guided to the office to make the panda cake. The whole volunteer program is going to end at 15:30 or so and you will be awarded a certificate issued by the Dujiangyan Panda Base before leaving. At the end of the day tour, your guide and driver will take you back to the hotel in Chengdu. Hope you have had a nice day with us!
