3 Days Tour to Tongren via Yuping

From Guiyang, you can take train No.T88 (08:00 - 12:27) to Yuping. The ticket is CNY50.5 for hard-seat. If you depart from Kaili, you can also take train No.T88 (10:25 - 12:27), costing CNY23.5 for hard-seat.

Upon arrival in Yuping, pay a short visit to the Bell and Drum Tower. With a height of 21.4 meters, the three-story wooden Bell and Drum Tower was initially built in Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644), and has long been a landmark building for the Dong people. You can also visit the nearby old street and stores to buy some souvenirs.

Then get back to Yuping Railway Station to catch an express bus to Tongren, costing CNY35 per person. The drive from Yuping Country to Tongren City takes about one hour. Upon arrival at Tongren, we suggest that you check in at the Wenzhou Hotel at No. 85 Daqing Road. Or you can carpool a taxi with other visitors from Yuping to Tongren, costing about CNY30 per person. You can have the taxi driver drop you off at the hotel.

Get up early and check out of the hotel. You are advised to pack a light bag with enough food, warm clothes, and a flashlight along with you, and leave the rest luggage at the front desk of the hotel.

You can take a taxi to West Gate Bridge of Tongren, where a ferry to the Nine-dragon Cave Scenic Area is available every half an hour. The ferry ticket is about CNY25 per person. Or you can take a bus No.4 from the hotel and get off at Shiyan Middle School after 12 stops. Walk forward down the road for 300 meters, and then turn left onto Changcheng South Road. You will find Jintan Bus Station after 100 meters. There you can take a tourist bus to the cave for CNY10.

Located on Six Dragon Mountain and facing the Jinjiang River, the Nine-dragon Cave is a large natural karst cave. It takes about an hour to climb to the entrance of the cave from the ferry pier. The admission fee is CNY80. Inside the Nine-dragon Cave, there are crystal stalactites of various shapes. You will also see tens of stalactites pillars higher than 20 meters, among which the highest rise to 40 meters with a diameter of 16.4 meters, and it is rarely seen.

Afterwards, get back to your hotel either by bus or ferry to collect your luggage. Then take a coach to Fanjing Mountain in Jiangkou County from the coach station opposite the hotel. The bus fare is CNY30 and takes about 1.5 hour to reach the foot of the mountain. Alternatively, you can take a bus from Tongren to Jiangkou County, and then transfer to another bus to Fanjing Mountain.

After getting the entrance ticket (CNY110 from March to November; CNY90 from December to February), you can take a sightseeing bus (CNY10 for a single trip) or cable car (CNY90 for a single trip) to go up to the mountain, or climb the steps by yourself. Having nine mountain ranges stretch thousands of miles, Mt. Fanjing National Nature Reserve is one of the holy lands for Buddhism in China since the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644), so there are several temples built on the mountain. The real charm of this mountain consists of its splendid scenery including the three outstanding peaks, namely Old Golden Summit, Phoenix Summit and New Golden Summit. Stay overnight at a local inn on the mountain.

Get up early to catch a glimpse of sunrise if it is a clear day. Continue to enjoy the wonderful landscape for two or three hours. For your information, you can go down the mountain by another way that heads in the direction of Yinjiang County so as to fully enjoy the mountain views. Then return to Tongren from Yinjiang County (CNY30) or Jiangkou County. From Tongren, you could either take the train back to Guiyang or take the coach to Fenghuang Old Town.
