On May 10, 2023, Guiyang - Nanning high speed railway allowing the top speed of 350km/h (217mph) has been put to the joint test, which will last for about 2.5 months. This newly built high speed railway is 482km (300mi) long, dotted with 13 stations including Guiyang East, Longdongbao, Duyun East, Libo, Nanning North and Nanning East. After being put into use, the travel time by high speed train between Guiyang and Nanning, two capital cities in southwest China will be shortened from 5 hours to around 2 hours.

From April 13, 2023 on, train D887 departs from Kunming South Railway Station in southwestern China at 08:08 and D888 leaves from Vientiane Railway Station in Laos' capital at 09:08 on a daily basis. The highest speed for both is 160km/h (99mph) and the intermediate stops include Puer, Xishuangbanna and Mohan in China, and Boten, Luang Prabang and Vang Vieng in Laos. A single trip takes 10 hours and 30 minutes for either direction, counting in the time consumed for custom formalities at the border. Ticket fare is CNY542 for a second class seat and CNY864 for a first class seat.

Since the coming April 1, more high speed trains running back and forth between Hong Kong West Kowloon Railway Station and the mainland of China will be resumed, including those to and from Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Guilin, Kunming, Wuhan and Changsha. They have been suspended after the outbreak of covid-19. Those to and from Guangzhou and Shenzhen had started running again since January 15, 2023.

After being taken off for 3 years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the high speed trains shuttling between Hong Kong and the mainland of China are planned to serve passengers again since January 15, 2023. In the initial stage, they would run to and from Shenzhen North Railway Station, Guangzhou South Railway Station and Guangzhou East Railway Station. Soon after, more destinations will be added.

Since April 8, 2022, China trains will run on a new timetable. To cope with the timetable adjustment, China railway tickets dated on and after April 8 are currently not available. The estimated available time is April, 2.

As per the adjustment, timetable of passenger trains will not change a lot, including both high speed types and normal types; while several freight trains will be added.

Beijing Fengtai Railway Station, the oldest railway station in the city and currently the largest railway station in Asia after upgrading, has started serving passengers again since June 20, 2022. After 4 years' renovation, it nowadays has 32 railway tracks and can accommodate 14,000 passengers at the same time. Gradually, it will operate high speed trains to and from Guangzhou, Wuhan, Shijiazhuang, Taiyuan, Zhengzhou… and regular trains to and from Shanghai, Hong Kong… Its elevated floor is for high speed trains; the ground floor is for regular trains; and the underground floor is for subway.

Recently, the Xi'an to Lhasa train Z917 has started to run since June 18, 2021 while the Lhasa to Xi'an train Z918 since June 19. Z917 departs from Xi'an South Railway Station at 22:37 with a stopover at Xi'an Railway Station from 23:26 to 23:50; it arrives at Lhasa Railway Station at 11:20 the third day. Z918 sets off from Lhasa Railway Station at 09:00, arrives at Xi'an Railway Station at 20:01 the third day and Xi'an South Railway Station at 20:53. Both are operated every other day with the travel time of 36h43m and 35h53m respectively. The hard sleeper ticket is around CNY620 and the soft sleeper ticket around CNY1,000.

Currently, the trains to Lhasa include Z21 from Beijing, Z165 from Shanghai, Z265 from Guangzhou, Z322 from Chengdu, and Z6801 and Z3811 from Xining.

As of April 10, 2021, the new train timetable has been put into use in China. With the opening of new high speed railway routes like Beijing - Harbin Railway and Xuzhou - Lianyungang Railway, the travel duration between some cities have been shortened greatly. For instance, the travel duration between Xi'an North and Lianyungang has been cut by 1.5 hours, and the travel duration between Xiangyang East and Qingdao North has been cut by about two hours. Besides, additional trains are arranged to run on some popular routes, including the seven pairs of high speed trains added to operate between Shenzhen and Xiamen.

In 2021, the Qingming Festival holiday falls on April 3, 4 and 5. The train tickets have been on sale since March 20. Thanks to the effective Covid-19 control measures, more travelers will choose to take a train ride during the holiday. Some of the hot routes include Beijing - Wuhan, Beijing - Zhengzhou, Beijing - Shanghai, Beijing - Guangzhou and Beijing - Harbin. Accordingly, some extra trains will be added onto the schedule to suit passengers' needs. If you have a plan to travel during this holiday, please book a ticket in advance.

As temperature keeps rising these days, flowers begin to bloom vividly, attracting lots of tourists. For passengers' convenience, the China Railway Cooperation has operated a series of tourism trains recently for spring trips, such as the high speed train from Xi'an to Hanzhong in Shaanxi Province for appreciating rape flowers, Y136/7 between Deyang and Chengdu in Sichuan Province, and those in the south region of the Yangtze River.
