Ceylon Tea Tour

Welcome to Sri Lanka! You will be picked up at Bandaranaik Airport (CMB) by our representative and escorted to the hotel in Negombo by the driver guide. The whole afternoon will be left for you to have a good rest to prepare for the following pleasant itinerary or stroll around on your own.

After breakfast, we will take part in the Colombo Tea Auction. It is the world's largest auction of single origin tea which is held during 08:00 - 17:00 on every Tuesday and 14:00 - 17:30 on every Wednesday. Then we will drive 3.5 hours to Kandy with a stopover at Giragama Tea Plantation. The plantation was built in 1903 to produce low long leave tea. Check in the hotel upon arrival.

Today, you will be led to go sightseeing a Tea Museum first. Next, we will travel to Nuwara Eliya by 2 hours' car. In midway, pay a visit to Labookellie Tea factory and taste a cup of fragrant tea here. After reaching Nuwara Eliya, check in the hotel and have a rest.

At about 06:30, we will leave for an organic tea garden to experience tea leaves picking. Meanwhile, you can appreciate the beautiful natural scenery of the mountains covered by tea trees. In the afternoon, follow the driver guide to explore Nuwara Eliya city, including Victoria Park, Gregory Lake, and one of the oldest post offices in Sri Lanka. In the evening, the Brookside Tea Factory will be visited. It is one of the best tea factories with natural tea leaves withering facilities, which help produce the best black tea.

After breakfast, take the car for 45 minutes to Talawakelle and tour the Tea Research Institute. Then you will be transferred to Nanu Oya Train Station for the train to Bandarawela departing at 12:15. During the journey, you can appreciate the splendid mountain scenery and the large area of tea trees. Upon arrival, the local driver will pick you up and escort you to the hotel.

The first stop of today's tour is Haputale. We will drive 1 hour to get there and pay a visit to Lipton's Seat located on Dambetenna of Haputale Mountain. It is the favorite scenic spot of Sir Thomas Lipton, the founder of Lipton Tea. Here, you are able to overlook Uva, Sabaragamuwa, South, Central and Eastern provinces. Sir Thomas Lipto visited Sri Lanka in 1990s and did a business with James Taylor who introduces the tea gardens into the country. The company of Sir Lipton purchases tea from Sri Lanka and distributes it to Europe and America. Finally, we will drive 4 - 5 hours to Colombo and check in a hotel there.

A full day Colombo city tour will be arranged today. The guide will lead you to visit some of the following scenic spots according to the time: The Colombo Fort, the Former British Administrative Centre and Military Garrison, Sea Street - the Goldsmith's quarters in the heart of Pettah, the Bazaar area with a Hindu Temple, the Kayman's Gate with the Belfry at the original gate to enter the Fort, the Dutch Church of Wolfendhaal dating back to 1749, Colombo Museum, the Natural History Museum, the BMICH (Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall), The replica of Avukana Buddha and the Independence Square. In the evening, we will take part in a tea party in the hotel.
