Insight into Ethnic Villages

Upon your arrival in Guiyang today, your guide will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to explore this city.

After you enjoy the hotel breakfast, your private guide will escort you to visit the Qingyan Old Town. With a history of more than 600 years, this town has kept many elaborate old buildings together with lots of exquisite stone and wood carvings. Then we will drive to Kaili, which is the center of ethnic Miao culture as more than sixty percent of the population is Miao people. We will check in at the best local hotel first, and go to a Miao People village to see the traditional way of paper-making. Continue the trip to Qingman Miao village, which is inhabited by a branch of the Miao minority known for its female villager's ethnic dress - long skirt. You will visit the typical wooden stilt houses and see how their daily life is. Afterwards, we get back to the hotel.

Today we will visit another two featured Miao villages to explore more about the Miao minority. The first village is called Datang Short-skirt Miao Village as the female villagers here wear their traditional mini-skirt. You will also see the famous wooden granary built over a pond, which was an ingenious design in old days in order to protect crops from fire, rat and pests. Next you will visit Langde Long-skirt Miao Village. Most travelers enjoy strolling along the stone-paved paths and looking at the traditional wooden houses. Moreover, a splendid Singing and Dancing Show will definitely bring you a great enjoyment. After that we drive to Rongjiang and check in at a local hotel.

Today's tour starts with a visit to Basha Miao Village. It is one of the oldest Miao villages in China and people there still keep their pristine traditions and folklores. The male villagers have a peculiar haircut throughout their life. They shave off most hair, but only leave the middle part and put the braid into a bun. This tradition has been kept for generations. What a great cultural heritage! As you may know, ordinary Chinese people are not allowed to buy or use a gun. However, there is an exception in Basha Miao Village. According to remote legends, the ancestors of Basha Miao villagers were forced to migrate to the settlement we visit today after defeat in the prehistoric era. They were valiant warriors, and the warlike folkway comes down. Basha Miao villagers retain the custom of carrying muskets with a special approval by the public security department, and the village becomes the only legal gunner tribe in China. You could see some man with their long muskets in the village, and may be welcomed with a firing ceremony when entering the village.

Later you will pay a visit to Huanggang Dong People's Village, which has a history of more than 800 years. During the festivals, all villagers get excited by engaging in the bullfighting, Dong Opera and Grand Choirs. Women will also wear their gorgeous costumes and silver ornaments at that time. All dresses are hand made by them from weaving, dyeing and sewing. In the afternoon, we head for Zhaoxing to visit the largest Dong People's Village in China and enjoy a feast of night performance of Dong people’s chorus songs. Tonight, you will stay at a local hotel in Zhaoxing.

This morning, you will visit Tang'an Dong Village. People there live a life relatively close to authentic ethnic life of the past, so it is also known as Tang'an Dong Ethnic Eco-Museum. The well-preserved Dong culture and captivating scenery make this village a tempting place for travelers. After that, we drive to Sanjiang to visit the Chengyang Wind and Rain Bridge and another Dong village close by. Then continue driving to Longsheng and check in at the hotel.

Today you will visit the spectacular Dragon's Backbone Rice Terraces. The rice paddy terraces spread over the hills and rustic villages dotted around. This amazing view is a unique blend of man-made farm and natural beauty. If you come here during middle May to early June, you will have an opportunity to see the rice field filled with water, a splendid scenery. Most travelers just cannot stop snapping pictures. You may walk through the terraces and watch farmers planting rice. Later you will visit a Zhuang People's Village, where the people's clothes and their customs are quite different from that of other ethnic villages you have already visited. After that, we will transfer you to Guilin and check in to the hotel.

After breakfast, your guide and driver will pick you up from the hotel and transfer you to the dock, where you will take a Li River Cruise downstream to Yangshuo. The best scenery of Guilin and some dotted villages of Zhuang minority are along the riverway. Don't miss the real scenery that is on the back of a RMB 20 note. Upon disembarking, we will arrange a leisurely countryside trip for you to enjoy the natural and rural beauty of Yangshuo. On the way, drop in at a farmer's house to experience the local's lifestyle. Your guide will escort you back to Guilin in a private drive at the end of the day tour.

Tips: The cruise lasts around 4 hours and reaches the terminal Yangshuo at about 14:00. Lunch is available on board, but the basic Chinese box lunch may fail to meet with your approval. So we recommend you to prepare for the cruise with a generous breakfast at the hotel.

Your one-day Guilin city tour today includes visits to the Reed Flute Cave and the Elephant Trunk Hill. At the first site, you will see the amazing landscape in the karst cave. The Elephant Trunk Hill, the landmark of Guilin city, is located on the west bank of the Li River and looks like a huge elephant drinking water with its long trunk. Lunch is on your own arrangement, but your guide will help you find a suitable restaurant. After the day's sightseeing, your guide will see you off at the airport so that you can board the flight back home loaded with pleasant memories.
