Xi'an North Railway Station

Xi'an North Railway Station is one of the most important transportation hubs of Chinese high speed rail network. It is about 8.7 miles (14 km) from Bell Tower (city center), 8 miles (13 km) from Xi'an Railway Station, and 15.5 miles (25 km) from Xianyang International Airport.

Layout & Functions of North Railway Station

The North Train Station mainly consists of two parts: two squares and station building. Public bus stops, taxi stands are available on the south square, and beneath the square, there are also parking lots in service.

Between the two squares is the station building, covering an area of 83 acres. The building has three floors. The detailed function is as below.

2F: waiting hall, ticket office, commercial area (on mezzanine), taxi drop-off area

1F: departure hall, platforms, ticket offices, exits / entrances

B1: arrival hall, subway entrances / exits, ticket office

B2: metro stations

On the north of the railway station, there are two four-storey parking buildings, west and east parking building, with about 2,000 parking spots. Drivers can go to the station through the corridor on the second floor. Passengers can take taxis on 1F and B1 of the west parking building.

Note:

1. Passengers arriving by taxi will be dropped at the drop-off area on 2F.

2. The subway line 4 will arrive at the North Square of the railway station. Take exit B, there are clear English signs to help go to the North Railway Station.

3. The bus stations are on South Square.

Ticket Check and Boarding

Before checking in, passengers should read their tickets information carefully to know exactly where to have the ID certificate used to book the ticket checked. North Station is equipped with self-service check-in machines. But overseas passengers need to have their ID certificate bearing the ticket checked by the station staff at check-in points. Check-in usually begins 30 minutes before departure and stops 5 minutes before. Then, take escalators or stairs down to platforms on 1F for boarding.

How to go from Xi'an North Railway Station to famous sites

To Xi'an Railway Station
Bus 266 and Metro Line 4 can take passengers there directly without transfer.

To Bell Tower
Take line 2 to Bell Tower. Close to Bell Tower, one can also walk to visit the Drum Tower, Muslim quarter and Great Mosque.

To Terracotta Army
Take line 2 to Beidajie→Transfer to line 1 to Fangzhicheng→Transfer to line 9 to Huaqing Pool→Walk for 210 meters to take Lintong 613 to Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum

To Xi’an Airport
Take line 14 to get to the airport directly.

To Mt. Huashan
Take a train to Huashan North Railway Station→Take Huayin 603 close to the exit and get off at Huashan bus station→ Walk for about 1.2 km to get to the entrance of the scenic site.

To City Wall
Take subway line 2 to Yongningmen (South Gate) and get out from exit C. After, walk northward to ascend the City Wall.

To Giant Wild Goose Pagoda
Take subway line 4 and get off at Giant Wild Goose Pagoda. Take Exit C and walk south for 700 meters to the entrance. Shaanxi History Museum is nearby.

Facilities and Services

Ticket Office:
Two ticket offices, located at both sides of the entrance on 1F, are open from 05:30 to 24:00. The special windows for ticket change and refund are located inside the office on the east side. In addition, the ticket office on south side of -1F will be opened in peak travel season.

Waiting Hall:

KFC in the Terminal Building

It is located on 2F of the terminal building. Upon arrival, find the specific waiting area and check-in barrier according to your ticket. There is also a mezzanine on this floor, which is a shopping and dining zone including McDonald's, KFC, Daniang Dumplings, Mingtien Coffee and UBC Coffee. Special local products and handicrafts also can be found here. There are 56 call buttons scattered around the waiting hall, so passengers can ask for help when they come across any problems. On east and west sides of the hall, scatter toilets and hot drinking water rooms for passengers' convenience.

Left Luggage Service:
If you have luggage to store at the station, you can go to the customer service counter on 2F. It charges CNY 3 for small bags (less than 22 pounds) and CNY 5 for large luggage (over 10 pounds) per day. Luggage carrier service counters are located at the entrances of both first and second floors. The carriers can send the luggage onto carriage for you. The service fee is CNY5 per piece of luggage and CNY50 per cart.

With the assistance of Travel China Guide, my husband and I did have a trouble-free train trip between Hong Kong and Guangzhou. The public transportation system is so well developed that you can just take subway to almost all sightseeing spots, to the Convention and Exhibition Center. Here we want to thank you for checking the subway info. for us. You were the most helpful for this visit in China.

The staff are an absolute disgrace. I was late for a train due to going to the wrong station, because I'm to know there are two stations in Beijing. I couldn't rebook online so had to find a ticket office, which are hidden away at the end corners of the building. The girl at the ticket office of course didn't speak a word of English, she rebooked me for the next train. I left my luggage at the ticket office. By the time I realised and went back, I missed the train. Of course the staff don't bother to tell anyone if they leave their luggage, because, why would they? There were no staff at the lost luggage desk either, he bothered to show up 30 minutes later. I complained to the manager about him and the lack of attention paid by the girl at the ticket office he said if you pay the man at lost luggage, he will look after your luggage! Unbelievable....More

Unfortunately, because of the outbreak of the Coronavirus, we have to cancel our trip to China, so we also have to cancel our order of the train tickets. We decided to take the night train Beijing- Xian- Beijing instead flying. After thorough online research I came across TravelChinaGuide. The online booking procedure was easy. I got all our E tickets confirmation several minutes after payment. And I got all our tickets at the train station without paying. Amazing!

We intended to climb Mt. Hua and booked the tickets with TravelChinaGuide. While, when we got there, there were mountains of people and we were refused to enter into for our safety. Finally, we had to call the agency to cancel the tickets. What a pity. So, if you would like to go there, please arrive earlier.

Take metro line 4 from the Xi'an North station and get off at Dayanta stop (Big Wild Goose Pagoda station) , exit F, and then take the public bus 609, 500 or 23 for 2 stops at South Square Station of DaYanTa, there is an alley at your left hand, the hotel is 300m away.

Is 40 mins enough to change trains at Xi'an North Station?
Hi there, we're thinking we'll arrive from Zhangye West to Xi'an North station at 18:03 and need to catch the 18:50 train to Pingyaogucheng at the same Xi'an North station (our plan is to have the paper ticket ready on us in Zhangye). Do you think there is enough time for us to get onto the 18:50 train? Thanks

Yes, 40min is fine for transfer within same station. As first trip is also a high speed train, it should hardly delay.

What is Xi'an North Railway Station ticket office opening hour? Open and close time?
If we arrive at the train station much earlier, can we request at the ticket counter to change ticket time. Is there any extra changes?
Are Luoyang Longmen, Huashan North and Pingyao Ancient City Railway Stations have the same opening hour? Thanks

The ticket office should open around 5:30am, not sure about the close time, maybe 11pm. The working time is different at each station. It is decided by the train schedule. As I know, ticket can be changed once at station without extra fee but surely you need to pay a price difference if the price become higher.

How can I arrange my luggage on bullet train Xi'an to Beijing
I will traveling in China over 10 days so I have two suitcases each around 23kg. How can I arrange them on a bullet train?

I think it is not a problem to have both suitcases with you. I know the terms says each people can only take 20kg luggage, but from my experience at station, they would not check about it. I saw people with 2 pieces of luggage at station too. You can take them and put it on the rack near your seat.

In fact you can take metro line 2 to Xiaozhai, exit F. Then take bus No. 24 to the South Square of Wild Goose Pagoda. The hotel is about 250m away. Or you can take line 2 to Weiyijie, exit C. Then you can walk 1.5km to the hotel. Or you take metro line 4 to Datangfurongyuan and then walk to the hotel, around 1.1km.
