With subtropical Mediterranean climate, Malta has an annual average temperature of 21°C/ 69°F. From July to September, Malta's summer is hot and dry, and the average temperature is 30°C/ 86°F. As a tiny country with only 316 square kilometers (about half of New York City), Malta does not have subways or trains. In addition to the ferries that connect the three islands, the important transportation ways on the islands are buses and taxis. The main bus operating company in Malta is Arriva. The departure interval of the buses crossing major areas and tourist routes is usually 10 to 30 minutes, and the night buses are mainly operated in the St. Julie area.

The taxis in Malta are all in white color, and most of them are private owners. Generally, the cost is calculated according to the destination, no starting cost or kilometers. For areas with fewer buses, taking taxi is a good choice.

Since 2008, the euro has replaced the Maltese lira as the general currency of Malta. You could exchange currencies at Malta's two major banks: Bank of Valletta (BOV) and HSBC, which can be found in various areas of the island. The ATM machine in the airport is also an option to withdraw local currencies. Visa and Master cards are accepted in major supermarkets, hotels, restaurants, and ticket offices of some attractions.

Travelers holding USA, Canada, Australia passports, and citizens of EU and EEA countries are allowed to stay up to 90 days without a visa. Other international travelers can enter Malta with a valid Schengen visa issued by any Schengen country.

Tipping is not obligatory in Malta. If you are satisfied with the service received, you may express your gratitude by giving tips, which will be highly appreciated. In hotels, 1 to 2 Euros per bag to the porter is fine and 2 to 3 Euros per day for housekeeping. In restaurants, it is customary to tip 5%-10%, however, if a service charge has already been included in the bill, there is no need to tip again.
