As we went in the height of summer it was completely packed wall-to-wall - we arrived at 9am, but on reflection perhaps getting there for when it opens (8.30am) might have helped. Jacky took us to meet the farmer who originally found the army, and then we entered pits 1, 3 and 2. As we went in the height of summer it was completely packed wall-to-wall - we arrived at 9am, but on reflection perhaps getting there for when it opens (8.30am) might have helped. Jacky told us as much as he could about the army, but it was difficult with the deafening crowds pushing and shoving (to the point where I felt quite claustrophobic). Had we been hungry after this would have been the perfect place for lunch.
Next we went up on to the city wall which is very wide & Jacky pointed out the views on the walk to the nearest corner. If we had gone another month when it was cooler then we would have loved to have cycled on the city walls (approx 40mins to do the whole thing I think).
Next was the Big Wild Goose Pagoda (apparently the difference between the Big/Small pagodas is their age, not their size). Jacky was able to answer our questions and explain everything in this temple complex.
Finally we went to the Muslim quarter. We asked Jacky to take us for a late lunch somewhere and we were pleased that he took us to a cafe/restaurant which we wouldn’t have been able to go to ourselves (as it didn’t have an English menu) so it felt very authentic! He gave his recommendations & the food was delicious. We then walked around the Muslim Quarter & looked in the shops before driving back to our hotel.
Jacky was a really great guide - he was so informative not just about the sights we saw but about life in China, he understood that Westerners have different views on the culture & politics etc and was happy to answer our questions & give his views! We really learnt a lot about China from him which we really appreciated.
We would definitely recommend this tour as it is the best way to see so much of Xian in one day - just perhaps not in July/August as the school holidays make the Terracotta Army sadly unbearable (& there is no crowd control in this tourist attraction yet). We did drive to a little village nearby but there wasn’t much to see here, so we were happy to come home again. Return car journey took 2hrs.
Our guide knew we wanted to visit Elephant Park so when we were dropped off by the driver she kindly walked us to/around the park & told us all about the park & the viewpoint.
The cruise through the river was one of our highlights while in China, and I’m very glad we didn’t have to get a coach/bus back to Guilin city by ourselves. Communication beforehand was great too. Would recommend. Collapse - Cosham foodieAug 17, 2023Another great tripAnother excellent trip with Agate Travel. This time Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan where we were very well looked after. When we returned to Shanghai at the end of our 11-day tour, we saw the Shanghai Museum and the Yu Garden. The Shanghai Museum had a lot of great exhibits, but as with many museums, there is never enough time. Ryan pointed out many interesting details in the Yu Garden that could easily have been missed. The details and explanation made the visit to the garden a lot more meaningful. Overall, we had a great time in Shanghai. Collapse

The following morning, Sugar picked us up early to go to the Chengdu giant panda rescue and research center. Despite the significant size crowds, Sugar managed to get us from place to place for some great views and photos of the Giant Pandas. After leaving the pandas, she took us to a fantastic authentic local restaurant where she helped us order the best local cuisine. The lunch was truly fantastic and we even got to see a mask changing show at the restaurant! After we went to the Jinsha Site museum where she explained the site discovery and history. Lastly we went to Kuan Alley and walked and shopped. It was a really cool neighborhood. Sugar then gave us some great dinner recommendations for local Sichuan Hot Pot (including directions from the hotel)!
We had the next morning to ourselves where we shopped at nearby stores. Sugar picked us up promptly and took us to the train station. She took us through security and to our gate to assure safe travels on our next leg.
Sugar’s English was excellent and her bubbly personality made our time in Chengdu so fun! She is a great ambassador for Chengdu and we once again felt like we made a new friend!! Collapse

We found our two guides helpful and prepared to do extra (even wrote out some helpful Chinese for us) and were patient with our varied tour group. We were very comfortable with our dining and accommodation. The tour buses were comfortable and the drivers unintrusive. There were some surprises including the chair lift to the Great Wall and the Kung Fu Show. A nice "surprise" in Xián was the Tang dynasty music and dance show after a dumpling meal! Tai Chi and other activities in the City Wall Park were wonderful. I'll have to go back as I didn't quite master the use of chopsticks but we foreigners were usually provided with forks. When it came time to say Goodbye we were taken to a convenient spot for transport to the train station. Thank you Travel China Guide Tours for everything.

We also got better prices than our local tour companies were offering here in Switzerland and some great travel advice. We had help with our visa and covid requirements.
During the trip, the guides and drivers we had were very professional. Each day was different and fun, but also well balanced between excursions and time to relax at our hotel pools.
I can definitely recommend Travel China Guide as a competent and trustworthy tour operator.

Thanks to all for a memorable tour. All of our guides were outstanding. They were well informed, their language skills were very good and they always performed in a professional manner. My group and I agree that Barry (in Beijing) and Carol (in Xi'an) demonstrated an energetic and enthusiastic ability to energize our group's interest in the subject matter. They command strong interpersonal and verbal communications skills and an ability to carry out their work obligations with vigor and resolve. They believe in giving an honest day's work for an honest day's pay. They are certainly an asset to their work group and to your company.
All drivers performed (under severe conditions) in a safe and professional manner. Their driving experience, without question, was a credit to our safety. The drivers kept the cars clean and provided courteous service at all times. For example, our drop-off or pick-up points were also performed in a safe and courteous manner. Our personal property was always guarded and safe in their care.
Your meal arrangements were most impressive and excellent. I want to compliment you on your presentation of China's regional cuisines. If I was to recommend one meal it would be either the Peking duck in Beijing or the Dumpling banquet in Xi'an. My only regret is that I will not easily find that type of food in New Mexico. Thank you for your generosity. My mother used to say, "when guests come, we always set our table with our best dishes." So it is with your tour company.
I found your itinerary and agenda to be a well balanced program consisting of: Chinese culture, Environment, Art, Architecture, Visual arts, Performing arts Chinese cuisine and of course Chinese History, both ancient and modern. The key word is "balanced". I think the visitor, whatever their nationality, will fine your program satisfying and rewarding if "balance" is preserved.
One additional word on "time distribution". You should be vigilant against rushing the Tour to keep a time table. Many years ago I booked a tour in Spain where the guide continually rushed us to keep the timetable. I have traveled to Spain at least once a year since then but, not with that tour company. The size of the group should determine the agenda and thus the timetable. You may have to cut back on the number of sights to be visited but never rush! For my tour group, consisting of five people, this was never a problem. We always had plenty of time at the sight and we were never rushed. This is why I prefer a small group tour.
I believe your company's water policy was adhered to during my tour. The drivers distributed water during the day. Water shortage was never a problem in our group.
Thanks again for offering me such a memorable trip.

This tour took me 1 year to plan it, that means our tour operator Emily, has been liaise with me for a year. I really thank her and appreciate her help to response to my requests fast and with patient. It cannot be denied that successful of this tour, a big credit should go to Emily.
During our tour, We have visited lots of places, from Beijing to Luoyang, then Xian, followed by Chongqing and Chengdu. Tour guides and drivers did their best to serve us during the tour, and I am much grateful for that.
In this tour, I want to specifically thank our guide in Luoyang, Chongqing and Chengdu.
Jenny was our guide in Luoyang. When she realized my father is having difficulties walking up and down the staircase, she has been very kind and shows her care to my father by support him by the arm when he walk up and down staircase. And this lasted for whole day. And she even stay back with us at night to wait for the train, so that she can help us carrying the luggage to the train. I must say that Jenny is a very caring person especially to the elderly.
Next when we were at Chongqing, Bella, our guide was also a caring and super friendly person. She shares a lots of her knowledge and experience, not only about the places we visit, but also other places in China. It was very nice and comfortable talking and listening to her as she has that easy get along type of personality. And she is also a very caring person taking care of our need during the trip. Also not to forget our driver Shi Shifu was also very helpful taking care of my parents when they are not follow us for certain places visit due to low stamina. I must say we have the best experience in Chongqing.
Lastly in Chengdu, we also received very well service from Leila the guide and Zhou Sifu our driver. When my father get sick and we need to change the schedule in last minute, they are able to response to me fast and cope with our request. They were also kind to drive us to the pharmacy to get some medicine.
I am grateful that we met a lot of good people in this tour, and I will definitely return to Chongqing and Chengdu as there are still a lot of places that we yet to visit, and definitely if possible I will request for the same driver and guide.

Hi!
Our family of four just got back Nov 24, 2018 from an eight day private guided China tour with TravelChinaGuide. We flew into Beijing and were greeted at the airport by our Beijing guide, Brian, and our driver. We aren't intrepid travelers but China was something we weren't willing to try to figure out on our own. We are so glad we used this company. We had a wonderful time and they were able to build our family an itinerary where we got to go and see a lot of China, keeping in mind we have two kids, ages 10 and 12. The hotels we stayed in Beijing, Xi'an, and Shanghai were quite comfortable and had nice breakfasts- there was something for everyone in our family that was familiar enough. In Beijing we went to the Temple of Heaven, The Forbidden Palace, The Summer Palace, the Drum Tower, on a rickshaw ride, and ate at a very nice restaurant and tried the famous Beijing/Peking duck. Quite fabulous and tasty. The Great Wall of China exceeded my high expectations. I thought it was so spectacular. We had enough time to climb and climb to a high tower. It is so steep! But we stopped along the way and took lots of awesome photos.
We traveled on train to Xi'an (I was very happy our guide helped us navigate the train station, as that was very unfamiliar). In Xi'an we had Lilly as our guide. She was extremely knowledgeable about Chinese history. We saw the famous Terra Cotta Warriors. Xi'an was a lovely city. The city wall was beautiful and scenic. It was fun and relaxing to walk around the wall. The garden around the Small Goose Pagoda was also beautiful and serene. We were lucky to have nice fall weather- coats but not so cold we wanted to go inside. One absolute highlight of our trip was going to a local family's home and eating a homecooked meal. Oh my goodness, it was so good! Everyone was gobbling down the food and she kept bringing out hot dishes. You won't want to miss this.
We flew a short flight to Shanghai. Shanghai has amazing architecture. We had great views of the wonderful skyscrapers. Our guide in Shanghai was Bright. She has a bubbly personality. We were able to switch our itinerary from a museum to the 2nd tallest building in the world, the Shanghai Tower. It was a clear day and well worth the admission price. We were giddy and excited about that. We loved the mix of old architecture with modern architecture and the European architecture in parts of Shanghai. We went to an amazing restaurant on Thanksgiving day and had an superb feast!
The drivers were excellent. The driving in the cities with 25 million people is a little hair raising but we were picked up and taken from place to place with ease.
I'm writing this review to thank all our three guides. We learned so much from them. They were all so enjoyable- although they didn't always understand my kids jokes :).

First I would like to thank you personally for all your help in arranging our trip. We were very impressed with your efficiency and the speed of your response to all our queries and requests. The additional flight you arranged for us after the trip worked fine and boarding cards were available at check in for us when we arrived at Check In. We were delighted to meet you in person in Xian and have the chance to say thank you.
Like many of the other members of the group we were anxious before the trip and reluctant to send money to a company we knew little about. The China tour reviews of Travel China Guide online were very helpful in assuaging our fears and the rapid acknowledgement of payment also eased our concerns. Marian and I had never taken a 'group tour' before and were also concerned about a rigid itinerary that might not suit our expectations. However, our small group vacation was absolutely fabulous. We gelled from the outset and everybody got on well together. This was helped in no small measure by the wonderful guides we had, Sara, Carol and Fae Fae. I can honestly say that we did things we would never have done if we were left to our own devices. Apart from visits to the major sites (Forbidden City; Great Wall; Terracotta Warriors; Shanghai markets) I especially enjoyed the rickshaw ride and visits to local homes. The guides gave us so much useful information and a real insight into Chinese culture and society. All of them had a real passion for their jobs and certainly went the extra mile to enhance our experience. The guides did provide feedback forms to all and were careful to respect our privacy and the confidentiality of our replies.
The travel arrangements were super. I don't envy the drivers in their task of negotiating the heavy traffic and keeping to schedule but they made it seem effortless. The coaches were very clean and comfortable and water was available as required. The meals were a wonderful treat - great variety and super abundant helpings. Again, we would not have managed such an experience if on our own.
You certainly tries hard to satisfy its customers and I will definitely recommend it to anyone visiting this huge country. We have just arrived home and I still have to review the many photos we took. If there are any that might be suitable I will forward later.
Many thanks for the great experience. By the way we visited Shenzhen and Hong Kong to complete our trip and also enjoyed these locations although we missed your guides and the company of the other group members.
Best Regards
Tony and Marian McNally
